Percutaneous embolization of pulmonary arteriovenous fistulas

چکیده
Pulmonary arteriovenous malformation is an abnormal communication between artery and a vein, causing clinical manifestations, such as chronic hypoxemia embolic events. Arteriovenous malformations were treated surgically, with significant rate of complications. In the 1970 ́s, first percutaneous catheter embolization was performed coils. We describe three cases in which techniques effective to prevent embolic, hemorrhagic, hypoxemic events follow-up patients.

Percutaneous embolization of arteriovenous fistulas of the external carotid artery.
Nineteen arteriovenous fistulas of the external carotid branches in 17 patients were treated by a variety of percutaneous transvascular techniques. There were nine females and eight males; 11 fistulas were traumatic in origin, five were "spontaneous," and three were thought to be congenital. The most frequent presenting symptoms were a bruit and thrill, followed by pulsatile tinnitus, pulsatile...

A 54-year-old woman presented with left proptosis, chemosis, ophthalmoplegia, and tinnitus in March 1989. Angiography demonstrated a left cavernous DA VF. The feeding arteries from the left external carotid artery were embolized. Her symptoms were relieved for a while but soon recurred . On May 2, she was referred to us for treatment. Angiography revealed that all the branches of the left exter...
متن کاملPercutaneous salvage of thrombosed immature arteriovenous fistulas.
Thrombosed immature fistulas have historically been considered unsalvageable. However, advances in procedure and balloon catheter technologies have expanded the scope of endovascular treatments. This study investigates the efficacy, functionality, and cost associated with the use of percutaneous techniques for the salvage of thrombosed immature fistulas. Over a 2-year period and from a populati...

THE ANTEMORTEM diagnosis of pulmonary arteriovenous fistula was made for the first time by Smith and Horton in 1939.1 The lesion was suspected from the appearance of the chest x-ray and subsequently proved by inj ection of contrast media into an arm vein with visualization of the abnormal vascular communication in the right lung. Since then many such lesions have been suspected from clinical fi...
متن کاملDirect percutaneous venous puncture and embolization of giant perimedullary arteriovenous fistulas.
PMAVFs are rare entities that are formed by a direct communication between an artery that feeds the spinal cord and a vein. The goal of treatment is to occlude the shunt; this is done endovascularly either from an arterial or a venous approach. When these approaches are not possible, direct percutaneous puncture of the draining veins may be attempted to embolize the arteriovenous shunt directly.
